Foundation Stage Easter News Letter   27th March 2013

We’ve had a brilliant half term, despite the dreadful weather. The children have really enjoyed the ‘People Who Help Us’ topic and have learnt so much about the wonderful people in our community.

This week we have been learning about the Christian celebration of Easter. We have been finding out how Christians and non-Christians mark this special time in the year. We have found out why hot cross buns are an Easter tradition. We practiced using the words half and quarter as we shared some buns together. We have also made a class tally chart to show our favourite Easter eggs. Today we had a special treat; we went on an Easter treasure hunt. We worked out the tricky clues and eventually found the Easter bunny!

Your children may have told you about our ‘eggciting’ news. We are expecting… some babies after the holidays…  We have been loaned an incubator and eggs. A specialist (chicken farmer) visited to tell us how to hatch the chicks successfully. All being well the chicks should hatch during the first week back. We will be able to keep the chicks in the classroom until they are ten days old, when they will be returned to the farm with the others. This ties in brilliantly with our topic work after Easter- ‘Living and Growing’.

P.E and library days will stay the same after the holiday, please ensure your child’s library books are in their book bags on a Friday, they love to change their books and are really disappointed if they miss this opportunity.

A little word about gifts and invitations…

It’s lovely when the children want to give gifts to one another or hand out invitations. We understand it’s not always possible to include all the children in the class and as a result we try to minimise upset to the other children by discreetly popping such items into book bags. We would therefore ask that you bare this in mind if you ask us to distribute on your behalf.

Lots of children find it tricky to form their numbers correctly, so any practise you can do over the holidays would be great! We really hope that the sun puts in an appearance over the holidays, so that you can enjoy some time outside.

Have a lovely Easter break, thank you for your continued support.
