In this session we we were engineers looking at how strong paper was and whether we could build something that would hold the weight of a hardback book only using paper and sellotape! Initially each group were given 50p to spend on materials;
Paper - 10p
Sellotape - 5p
Colour pencil - 1p each
We had to think carefully about how we would spend our budget and whether we wanted to buy colouring pencils to make our structure more pleasing to the eye! After our construction time was up, we tested our paper structures and found that rolling paper made it really strong and could easily support the weight of the book.
We even saw how four small, rolled pieces of paper could hold up a pile of books...and a tray of folders!!!
